Cré to undertake research into Compost Quality in Ireland, in association with MCOS and Queen's University Belfast.

Compost Quality is a key area of importance for Irelands growing composting industry. Already 13 facilities are in operation, creating waste derived compost for a number of markets. Following a proposal from consultants MC O' Sullivan & Company Limited, Cré is to jointly sponsor a research project that will attempt to gather compost quality test results from facilities currently in operation. The results should provide an indication of the overall standard of compost, which will help all plant operators and those wishing to develop sustainable markets for compost. As part of the Masters Degree in Environmental Engineering at Queens University, Belfast, master's students undertake an intensive 4-month research project, leading to a Thesis Report. Lorraine Herity, a graduate of University of Limerick, who will be based with MCOS for the project, will carry out the research. Lorraine will be hoping for the co-operation from all composting facility operators. Cré will disseminate the results back to all members.
