“Lessons Learnt and How to Roll out the Brown Bin Successfully”

& Cré General Meeting

Tuesday 19^th June in Heritage Hotel Portlaoise

Cre will be hosting a Themed Meeting on brown bins schemes on 19^th June in the Heritage Hotel, Portlaoise, Co. Laois. This meeting will review all the brown bin schemes in Ireland. The meeting will have a discussion forum and the outcomes will form a Cré ‘Brown Bin Policy’ which will be used in a new ‘Brown Bin Training Course’ Cré is developing. The main aim of the meeting is to learn best practices from existing brown bins schemes to prevent future schemes from reinventing the wheel.

Meeting starts at 9.30 - 10am = Tea, Coffee & Registration

Meeting finishes around 2.30pm

Each speaker will outline their brown bin schemes under the following headings;

1. Frequency Collection & Bin Sizes (houses, apartments)

2. Charging Regime for brown bin in relation to the black and green bins

3. Promotion (brochure, workshop, hotline)

4. Lessons Learnt (Participation rate, Presentation rate of brown bin, Contamination in bin – what do you do?)

Some of the brown bin schemes which will be presented are;

Dublin City Council (Vivienne Ahern), Waterford County (Paul Daly) Waterford City (Mick Storan, Veolia), Galway City Council (Garry O’Lochlainn), Overview of Biodegradable Bags (Tony Breton, Novamont), Fingal County Council & Lisburn District Council Schemes.

Free Exhibition Spaces

There are a limited number of exhibition spaces for Cre members, which are offered on a first come basis.

Attendee of the meeting will also receive a free DVD of Brown Bin workshop from Cré - Composting Conference held in Dublin Castle, Feb 07.

General Meeting for members

In the afternoon, Cré will have its General Meeting for members only, which will review Cré activities, elect officers and discuss plans for the year ahead.
